Scanning Considerations

The graphics on your website will be in digital form, as .jpg's or .gif's. We can do all scanning for you if you prefer, however it will save you money if you can place your graphics onto a CD (or Zip cartridge) prior to sending them to us.

If you cannot scan them at the correct resolutions yourself, then the easiest and least costly way to handle this is to use a professional scanning service.

The service will scan your slides or photos, and will put them onto a CD. This not only makes the images available for your website, but also it gives you an archival record of your work, which for most businesses and studios is critically important.

The cost for 20 images onto a CD from a professional scanning service will likely run between $35 and $40. We would strongly suggest that you also purchase a duplicate CD at the same time (will cost about $20), so you'd have an extra in case you ever need it.

You may find that there are competent scanning services in your local area, but if not, here are a few online scanning services for you to consider. Visit each site to see which you want to use - it is quick and easy to mail them your materials:

  • Imagers
  • DigitalTreasures.net
  • ReedPhoto.com
  • ScansToday.com
  • ScanningService.biz
  • Color2000.com

Certain graphics -- such as a logo on a brochure -- should be sent to us for scanning. But since the services we recommend use very high speed scanners, they can do your slides or photos at the best possible price, so that actually works out better for you. But as we said at the top, we can handle all scans for you if that seems easiest.

We will return to you any CD or Zip with all your other materials after the site is complete, so you'll also be able to use it for your brochures/catalogs if the need arises.
